HDR Experiment

Image
After Before    OK, so I've been playing around with fake-HDR, right? That's creating an HDR looking picture from just one JPEG. Most of you iPhone users know about HDR from our camera phone.By the way.. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. It basically takes two pictures, melds them together shoving more pixels into a small space while achieving a large range in color, contrast and shading. You wind up with a picture that is not possible with one picture using one exposure.  Personally I think the result is a picture that is closer to what the naked eye sees and sometimes even better. That's why I think  this niche in photography has taken off. It creates photos that are surreal. I just have two issues that i'm working around.  1. My camera doesn't shot in RAW format. According to many of the tutorials, you'll get the best result using a raw format picture. 2. My Photoshop software appears to be outdated, so no HDR support. After Before I also don't know what...

Father's Day 2011: Church, Sleeping Giant & a Car Show

Image
I have to thank my wife Karen for a great Father's day this year. Of course we started off with church. Bishop White preached about the Spirit of Reconciliation for absentee fathers and their children.    " And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." http://bible.us/Luke1.17.NIV        "Elisha saw this and cried out, "My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two." http://bible.us/2Kgs2.12.NIV       He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction." http://bible.us/Mal4.6.NIV      Put those in your notes fo...

Sorry it took me so long, but here are the two videos from Friday's Graduation. One is just a slideshow, the other is a "kidcam." Ethan takes the camera and gets some video of his friends before graduation.

Ethan Graduates from Pre-school! yay

Image
What a great way to start off father's day-- with my son's graduation from pre-school. That's right EJ is out of pre-school and now less than three months away from going into Kindergarten. It's been a long journey to this point. Well, maybe not that long. He's only four years old (soon to be 5.) But there has been a lot of growth in that short period of time. He went from that little tiny baby that was so small that his body fit in the nook between my fingertips and the crease of my elbow. From the tummytime videos to the crawling videos and walking videos. The baby noises videos and then all the pictures. It seems like everything Karen and I have been doing has been leading up to this point: Ethan's chance at life, his opportunity to learn, live, laugh and grow.I don't take it for granted either. There are places right here in the US where that access is not guaranteed.

Photo of the Day: Nature Walk

Image
Took a nature walk with my son on Hamden's Sleeping Giant State park and came away with some good shots of-- you guessed it- nature. i like the dragon Fly pictures and the flower pictures. I also got a hungry little Chipmunk. There were a lot of then out there. One of the other hikers saw a garden snake, but it was gone when I got there.

Photos of the day: Walk on a Sleeping Giant

Image
Ethan and I went for a monumental walk today. I've tried this before only to turn around halfway after hearing complaints about being tired and then ultimately winding up with a living, talking, singing backpack. I wanted to talk about the route.. and everything using a graphic or something from Nike GPS, but until i can figure out an easier way to make that work.... here are some pictures and my tweet from earlier today jayklef5JayKnightLife.com© I just finished a 1.36 mi run with a time of 35:18 with Nike+ GPS. #nikeplus Some other info that I got from nike plus :  the highest elevation was  -230 meters my fastest walking kilometer was 12.41
