testing the camera

Image
They say the best camera is the one you have with you. That can now finally be said of our cell phones since most of our cell phones have more megapixels than more 200 and 300 dollar cameras ten years ago. I remember my first cell phone had a .5 megapixel camera on it. The next one had a 3 megapixel camera on it and I thought I was doing something. I also remember the rush to get digital cameras and everyone was recommending that you "don't by a point and shoot camera unless it has at least 5 megapixels. " I know because I was one of those that got caught up in the "Black Friday" hype to get one of those cameras. That was only about 5 years ago. now my iPhone 4s has a 8 megapixel camera and can shoot HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos. Honestly, some DSLRs don't have have that capability. So, the review of this camera is all relative. In a few years (or less) it'll all be obsolete.     With that being said, It's kind of hard for me to separate my mi

The Reasons for the Season: Celebrating & Remembering Christmas Past

Image
Genesis 8:22:    While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.       Yes, it's time to celebrate Christmas again. The daylight hours are getting shorter, and the temperatures are getting colder.  For me, Christmas is  a time to celebrate the birth of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is also a time to reflect on the year  and the years passed. It's good to kind of look back at where we've come, what we've done, what has happened to us in order to get a bearing on where we may be headed. At least that's what i was thinking about as we were putting this year's decorations together -- remembering the family members that have passed on, those that are missing, and those that are brand new. So I encouarge you to get with family make new memories this year because next year's celebration could be a whole lot different. Take pictures!

The iPhone 4s and Siri are finally here: Review

I'm not one of those that has to be the first one to get a tech gadget when it comes out, but I'm sure that does come with some perks and excitement. Same with the iPhone 4s. Even with the death of Steve Jobs, I didn't really desire it.. thinking my iPhone 4 was pretty good as it is. I'll spare you all the details as to why I decided to get the upgrade but-- long story short-- My wife has my phone and I now have an iPhone 4s (her blackberry was dying slowly.)   So now i'm excited. I ordered the new phone and waited, and waited, and waited. Then finally I got notification that my phone had been shipped from China. I don't know too much about the complicated process of shipping a package and making sure it arrives at the correct address in a certain amount of time, but I'm sure i'm not the only one who likes tracking packages through the web. So fast forward to when when the phone arrives. I love it-- okay let me hold back judgement.... I lik

Okay so now that you have your fancy -fresh new DLSR now you have to start thinking about what is going to really make your pictures stand apart from someone else. I was in that position myself. Here's a list of items that I have purchased to get me going. I used Amazon.com to keep my costs down. For example: If I were to buy the Garry Fong diffuser at a local store, I'd pay about 20 bucks. On amazon I'd pay about 10 dollars less with shipping.  So, here's my list:   Opteka LP-E8 2000mAh Ultra High Capacity Li-ion Battery Pack for Canon Digital Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Electronics) I really don't see any huge difference between this battery and the more expensive canon battery that came with my Canon T3i (600D). If you are using this battery as a backup then you'll love it. Basically it gives me enough time to charge the Canon battery. At some point i figure I'll invest in a battery grip. For now, this is good for me.   Cheaplights NPT-04 Wir

The Eleven, One More Year

Image
I'm glad that we only have one more year of this fascination with dates and numbers. Up until 2001, we only ever freaked out about Friday the 13th. Since then 1/1/01, 2/2/02,3/3/03, 4/4/04,5/5/05,6/6/06, 7/7/07,8/8/08, 9/9/09, 10/10/10 and this year 11/11/11 have all lead to frenzy. This year the number frenzy happened to fall on Veterans day and out trend it on Twitter. Shame. People making a big deal out of it being 11/11/11 at 11:11.11sec. People having babies... Getting married... Buying lotto tickets,... Playing bingo ( yup couldn't barely find a parking space before church.)... Craziness. So, at least there's only one more frenzy year to worry about, 12/12/12. It makes me wonder how the next generation or the generations to come will hand this frenzy on January 1, 3001. I think just gives us something else to talk about besides Presidential candidates, national debt, and child predators. Here's I've websites explanation of it all. ----------- No. Wi

Family Fall Picture Day

Image
Every once in a while, I force my family to stop and pose. This past Sunday was on of those days. After church, after eating and just before everyone was about to take a nap, I made everyone put on their shoes, jackets and head outside. "Don't want to miss the sun-- let's go!" I said. Yet another reason to like our location. The way the sun rolls off this mountain and created deep shadows makes it look like we were taking pictures in some exotic location... but this is just one block up from Dixwell Avenue...lol. Anyway, we didn't miss the "golden hour".. and here's what we got!
